ZR1 Corvette - Unleashing The King
After years of speculation, General Motors has revealed the Chevrolet ZR1 Corvette as a 2009 model. ZR1 is a great name for the Blue Devil. Underpinned by a supercharged V8, the ancillary ZR1 Corvette is impressively insane. The waived ZR1 corvette is 625 bhp right out of the box.
The ZR1 Corvette was designed after GM chairman Rick Wagoner challenged GM engineers to build the ultimate Corvette. GM executives warn that the new Corvette ZR1 may be the last in a long tradition of Detroit performance cars that will soon be endangered by the new federal fuel economy law along with limits on carbon dioxide emissions. The new ZR1 is as much a leap over the base Corvette as the old ZR1 was back in 1990, and will have exotic technology to make it the new "King of the Hill".
The ZR1 Corvette is the most expensive GM car ever made, but compared to other supercars, it was comparatively cheap. The thing that makes the ZR1 special is its engine, the LS9 supercharged engine. The 620-horsepower limited-edition ZR1 is based on the performance Z06 but under the carbon fiber hood of the ZR1 is a new eight cylinder supercharged engine. The ZR1 is designed to rival the fastest and most expensive exotic cars from Europe. In fact, the ZR1 is said to be the first production Corvette to achieve a top speed of at least 200mph.
The ZR1 Corvette is based on the Corvette Z06's aluminum chassis, but there are quite a few slow body panels.
