Michelin Pilot PS2 - One Incredible Tire
Tires are application-specific Michelin Pilot Sport 2, they're frigging' huge: P285/30ZR19 in front, P335/25ZR20 out back (the wheel/tire package does account for a bit of the car's weight increase over a Z06). In case you're wondering, the ZR1-specific dual vents on the front fenders are open to the engine compartment, acting as an additional outlet for heat to escape. Tires are black, round and made of rubber. Their looks are simple; their function is not.
They're also just a few bucks shy of the cheapest set. Of course, with 60 tread wear, they're not going to last very long (though you can't really compare tread wear ratings between different manufacturers). They're a bit more expensive than comparable Yokohama, but then in my mind, they're not comparable. You'll be very happy with the Pilots. They're adjustable from straight down, straight out, straight up and anywhere in between. These totally allow the bullet look intended for the upper fairing.
It also delivers comfort levels similar to those of standard Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires, while delivering improved cornering control, thanks to an advanced sidewall and variable contact patch technology. Featuring a unique, asymmetric tread pattern and a highly-customized tread compound, the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP tire delivers an astonishing level of wet and dry performance for crisp cornering and high-speed capability. Michelin files its first patents for detachable tire that can be repaired in a quarter of an hour. Michelin invents the detachable steel wheel prefiguring the spare wheel in 1913. But a big part of its grip, and the resulting 7:26.4 Ring time comes down to the tires: Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZPs specially developed, racecar-style, alongside the ZR1.
Michelin Pilot Power tires are the first series of tires to benefit from a rubber compound formula specific to competition tires: C-RAO (Compounds-Racing Optimization). This C-RAO rubber mix gives the Pilot Power incredible grip, and especially quick warm-up time, with no compromise in durability compared to the current Pilot Sport tire. Personally, I like the Pilot Sport A/S tires much better due to the improved performance especially on wet roads. We know the Potenza S-03 to be a capable tire, having generated .99g and precise handling in the recently tested, Mugen-equipped S2000.
The Michelin Pilot Sport tire has been used by some of the world's most glamorous performance cars . Michelin have developed and patented their C3M manufacturing technology. The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S also features super strong Aramid reinforcements — the same material used in our Formula One racing tires — to help maintain the shape of the tire at high speeds. The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 is one of the best performance tires on the market today. It is the choice amongst many of the top competitors of the One Lap of America competition.
The tire product is consistently good and the Michelin Pilot Sport tire in particular offers top scores on all fronts. The only competitor we feel mounts a credible challenge is the Pirelli Pzero Rosso . The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 significantly outperforms not only its predecessor, but all other Michelin high-performance summer tires as well, both in wet and dry conditions. An infusion of the most advanced tire-making technologies and techniques, from the highly guarded C3M Technology™ production process to a Formula One-inspired four-groove tread design, allows the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 to stretch the very limits of what an ultra-high performance tire can achieve.
The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 is picked more often in reviews than any other ultra-high-performance summer tire. The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tire met or exceeded every performance requirement of the SRT team including exceptional wet and dry handling, tread wear, steering response, ride and comfort- and most importantly tenacious grip. For Corvette ZR1 owners, Michelin's ultimate street-capable racing tire will provide consistent lap times, superb steering response, confident high-speed cornering power and very high levels of lateral acceleration (grip) while at the track, but also offers excellent performance manners on the street.
