LS2 Engine - Rich Racing Heritage

LS2 EngineThe LS2 engine is heir to the rich racing heritage of GM's small-block V-8; the most successful production-based engine in motorsports. The LS2 engine is very different engine than the early LS1’s that had the oil consumption problem. At least if you’re going to lie tiger, do a decent job of it. The LS2 engine of the ‘06 coupe, while smaller and heavier, is actually much better suited to a turbo upgrade. The LS2 engine produces 400hp and with the vettes weight around 3200lbs makes 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and the 1/4 mile in the mid 12 sec range.

Oil capacity is greater by 2.5 quarts (8.0 versus 5.5 in regular Corvettes), and the remote reservoir helps remove trapped air from the lubricant. To clear a spot for the tank, the battery has been relocated behind the right rear wheel. Oiling was upgraded with a blueprinted Katech pump. The heads were swapped for GMPP's CNC-ported versions of the LS6 heads with Cometic gaskets, and the cam was a prototype for Crane's Z-series hydraulic roller, PN HR-220/3241-2S-13, featuring 220/228 degrees of duration at 0.050-inch tappet lift, 0.551/0.551 lift, and a lobe displacement angle of 113 degrees. Oil cooler is in the valley between the cylinders heads, rests in the cooling system with a cover on it to seal the cooling system. It is more than likely leaking and the cause of your problem.

Torque is inherent to the LS2 engine cam-in-block design, which features large 4.00-inch-diameter (101,6 mm) bores and a 3.62-inch (92 mm) stroke. Response is crisp and immediate, thanks to the electronically controlled throttle. LS2 Engine -2005 CorvettePower is delivered through a six-speed manual Tremec T56 transmission with skip shift and reverse lockout. It features a dual mass flywheel for reduced noise and vibration harshness. Powered by a 6-liter, 400-horsepower engine, and the 2005 Corvette has in effect three times the energetic of the 1953 6-cylinder commendable. The 2005 Corvette is adapted of doing 0-62 mph in 4 seconds.

Improved shifting characteristics are another major improvement, with new synchronizers that reduce travel by 10 percent, and a shifter knob that is an inch shorter and redesigned for greatly improved driver operation. The Hydra-Matic 4L65-E automatic transmission is an upgraded version of the C5's 4L60-E, strengthened and revised to accommodate the LS2's 400 lb.-ft. Improved materials quality and colors add some visual punch and new features like a DVD navigation system and satellite radio make it a worthier road-tripper. All in all, it's a nice step up from the previous car that most buyers are sure to appreciate.
