C6 Corvette - A New Beginning

C6 CorvetteThe sixth generation C6 Corvette is much sleeker than its C5 predecessor and is shorter overall by almost 13cm, giving the new model a tauter, and more defined and assertive appearance. With the C6 Corvette, Chevrolet has taken this American icon to the next level, offering high performance in a sleek package that is comfortable to drive. One of the amazing aspects of the C6 Corvette is in its anti-flight design. From the very beginning engineers envisioned that new Corvette would take a logical step up in performance, and that meant much more than simply injecting it with more horsepower. With this in mind, the C6 Corvette is destined to achieve higher levels of body panel quality, color matching, and fit-and-finish inside and out than previous Corvettes.

C6 Corvette coupeThe C6 Corvette was introduced in 2005, and according to several issues of Motor trend magazine, will be superseded by the C7 Corvette in the 2012 calendar year. Corvette chief engineer Dave Hill alluded to that point when he said, "We're not inventing—we're perfecting. Dave Hill, the chief engineer for the C6 Corvette, says that it is a much further departure from the standard Corvettes and more like the C6-R that GM is building for the American Le Mans Series.

The reduced dimensions were in response to criticism that the fifth-generation Corvette looked too wide—the new body gives the impression of a much sleeker, faster car. The current Corvette retains its relatively high fuel economy, in part by up shifting to higher gears as soon as possible and in part by its relatively low drag coefficient. While this boosts the EPA's derived fuel economy, thus allowing the buyer to avoid paying the "gas guzzler" tax, it is an open secret that more than a few sixth-generation Corvette owners with manual transmissions simply have a $20 aftermarket part (CAGS eliminator) fitted to their vehicle to re-enable a normal 1-2-3-4-5-6 sequence at any RPM. The most striking element will be the shift to exposed headlamps, something not seen on Corvettes since 1962. While the front sports a new grille opening and headlamps, the rear sticks to Corvette tradition with a set of twin taillights.

C6 Corvette Z06 The new Corvette Z06 arrived as a 2006 model in the third quarter of 2005. In addition to the larger engine, the Corvette Z06 has a dry sump oiling system, a feature typically found only on race cars and sport bikes. Performance figures were not released, but GM acknowledged that the car was capable of 200 mph (320 km/h), making it the fastest production Corvette ever. The wheels are the largest ever placed on a production Corvette, with both front and rear wheels increasing in size and diameter over the Corvette Z06. The C6 Corvette will be offered in both coupe and convertible body styles and possibly have a power-operated soft top for the first time. There are also a host of exterior and interior refinements that raise the Corvette's luxury status and enhance the feeling of craftsmanship. Everything is very stylish and Corvette branded, including the steering wheel, which holds audio control buttons on the right side.

C6 Corvette convertibleOne of the quickest and best ways to improve the performance of your C6 Corvette is to eliminate the restrictive stock air box. Besides the incredible performance of the car, the styling both inside and outside of the vehicle make this one spectacular car to own / drive. The straight line performance right from the factory is incredible, but don't let that fool you into thinking this car can't handle. It is the defining number for performance, but in reality what most drivers perceive as horsepower is actually torque, which is the force that pushes the vehicle away from stops or causes it to accelerate from a lower speed. The C6 Corvette is best known for its performance. Priced very competitively, this is one of the most well rounded, attainable performance vehicles to ever hit the production line. Whether mated to a revised, easier-shifted six-speed manual transmission or an up-rated four-speed automatic transmission, the C6 offers thrilling performance throughout the rev band with a level of quiet, sophistication and fuel economy that set new levels for performance cars. The result of the emphasis on the three "P's" -- power, passion and precision -- is a C6 that will take its place in the Corvette pantheon as the best ever, pleasing both the Corvette faithful and a new legion of buyers who will be drawn by the model's arresting good looks and stellar performance.

The C6 Corvette is a one mean Bow Tie, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be improved upon. But the good news about time jetting by is that Chevrolet is now introducing a sixth-generation C6 Corvette. Despite its credentials as a sports car, the new Corvette was surprisingly docile to drive about in town and can be as civil mannered as a High Street gentleman. That’s the sixth generation C6 Corvette for you.
